Financial Aid

We recognize that choosing an independent school is a major financial decision for families.  Harrisburg Academy strives to assist as many families as possible who cannot afford the full tuition but are determined to stretch their own financial resources to make education their family's top priority.  In a typical year, the Academy awards need-based financial aid to approximately 35 percent of the student body.  Most of our financial aid awards cover 60 percent or less of tuition.  In most cases, the maximum financial aid award is limited to 60 percent in 5th through 12th grade and 25 percent in Junior Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Lower School. (Financial aid is not available for the HATS/preschool program.)

The Academy awarded $1.2 million in need-based financial aid for the 2017-18 academic year to nearly 40 percent of the student body.  Qualified, motivated students are encouraged to apply for admission, regardless of financial need.

Need-based financial aid is available to Academy families based on a number of different factors.  Financial aid is renewable for each year the student remains enrolled at the Academy.  Families are required to complete a financial aid application annually (facilitated through School & Student Services by the National Association of Independent Schools, or NAIS) so we can review and make adjustments as necessary, based on changes in circumstances and tuition.  Find more important details about the financial aid application process in the Academy's Financial Aid Philosophy.

Looking for an overview of the financial aid process?  Identify financial aid options and take the guesswork out of making a private education more affordable through resources on the SSS by NAIS website.

Questions about the Academy’s flexible tuition program should be directed to Jessica Warren.  Questions about logging into or using the SSS by NAIS website should be directed to their Help Desk at financial aid processing (800-344-8328 or sss@nais.org).  Help desk hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Eastern time) and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Eastern time).

For the Current 2017-18 Academic Year

Families are able to apply for financial aid in support of a mid-year transfer through Nov. 1, 2017.  In most cases, financial aid is available for up to 50 percent of tuition for families that qualify.  This program is administered by the Academy with the help of NAIS and its web-based program called School & Student Services.  Please note – families that have applied through SSS by NAIS in the past will need to use their same login information to provide year-to-year consistency in the application process.

For the Upcoming 2018-19 Academic Year

Families with students in Junior Kindergarten through 12th grade for the upcoming 2018-19 academic year are eligible to apply for tuition assistance that provides flexibility in tuition payment amounts.  This program is administered by the Academy with the help of NAIS and its web-based program called School & Student Services.  As of Dec. 1, 2017, families are able to apply for this program through the online portal.  Please note – families that have applied through SSS by NAIS in the past will need to use their same login information to provide year-to-year consistency in the application process.

Current Academy families that complete their online application and provide W-2 and 1099 supporting documents by Jan. 15, 2018 should receive their decision letter in Feb. 2018.  Applications are considered on a rolling basis, including funding availability.  Financial aid applications for returning families are due March 1, 2018.  Families new to the Academy should complete the financial aid process at their earliest convenience, but no later than March 1, 2018.
