Merit Scholarships

Lower and Middle School students collaborateHarrisburg Academy is proud to offer several scholarship opportunities for students, both current and new.  For more information about any of these scholarship opportunities or need-based financial aid, please contact the Admission Office. Community Scholars Program

This renewing scholarship is available to new students entering 5th through 10th grades in fall 2017. The scholarship will be awarded as a percentage of each student’s yearly tuition, with typical awards ranging from 25 to 40 percent to each student. As many as four Community scholarships will be awarded, based on academic merit and well-roundedness of the applicant.  Click for the 2017-18 Merit Scholarship application; applications are due Feb. 1, 2017.  Late applications will be accepted and evaluated on a rolling basis, pending space and funding availability through April 15, 2017. 

 

George C. Hoopy '26 Scholarship

This renewing scholarship is available to new students entering the Upper School program.  This scholarship is designed for students with an exceptional academic background, who participate in co-curricular activities both in and outside of school, such as community service, fine and performing arts, and athletics, and who are otherwise well-rounded.  Partial scholarships, awarded up to 50 percent of each student's yearly tuition, will be awarded.  Applicants for the Hoopy Scholarship will be evaluated based on academic merit and well-roundedness of the applicant. Applications for the Hoopy Scholarship not being accepted at this time and will not be available until 2018-19.  Please contact the Admission Office with general questions about this scholarship opportunity.

 

Trustee Scholarship

This renewing scholarship is available to new students entering 8th through 11th grade in fall 2017.  This scholarship is designed for well-rounded students with a solid academic background, who also have a specific, recognized talent in co-curricular activities (such as community service, fine and performing arts, athletics, science and technology).  The scholarship will be awarded as a percentage of each student’s yearly tuition, with awards ranging at 25 to 50 percent to each student.  Click for the 2017-18 Merit Scholarship application; applications are due Feb. 1, 2017.  Late applications will be accepted and evaluated on a rolling basis, pending space and funding availability through April 15, 2017. 

 

The Spong Family Scholarship

This one‐time scholarship is available to 8th grade Academy students who have re-enrolled for 9th grade.  This scholarship is funded through the bequest of Marian M. Spong, which provided over $300,000 to the Academy’s endowment in support of student scholarships.  Except for students named as Corporate Partner Merit Scholars, all current 8th graders are eligible to apply for the Spong Family Scholarship.  This merit-based scholarship is awarded as a percentage of the student’s 9th grade net tuition.  Eligibility to receive the merit scholarship does not take financial need into consideration.  Financial aid can be awarded in addition to the Spong Scholarship.  ( Click here to access the Spong Family Scholarship application for 2017 and note it is due by March 17, 2017.  Late submittals will not be accepted.    

 

Corporate Partner Merit Scholarships

The Academy is excited to be partnering with large Central Pennsylvania employers to offer merit scholarships to children of full-time employees.  Corporate Partner Merit Scholarships are annual, renewable tuition scholarships of $10,000 per student.  Applicants must be new students applying to the Academy for enrollment in 5th through 11th grades.  Click for the 2017-18 Merit Scholarship application; applications are due Feb. 1, 2017.  Late applications will be accepted and evaluated on a rolling basis, pending space and funding availability through April 15, 2017.  For details on this particular scholarship and the application process, please contact the Admission Office. IB Scholarship for Summer Study

This scholarship provides travel funds for national or international travel and summer study for up to four current or prospective students to an academic or service learning program.  Students currently in 10th grade (at the Academy or elsewhere), who are pursuing a full IB Diploma or planning to take four or more IB Certificate classes during 11th grade, are eligible to apply for the award.  Be sure to learn more about the International Baccalaureate Diploma program at Harrisburg Academy and past IB summer study scholarsInterested in applying?  Please contact the Admission Office to learn more about this particular scholarship; applications will be posted in spring of 2017.
