Harrisburg Academy, a preschool through 12th grade coeducational, college preparatory day school of 400 students, seeks an experienced, results-oriented, and collaborative senior fund-raising professional to join our development team as Director of Development and Alumni Relations. This full-time position is available April 1, 2017.The director serves as the chief development officer of Harrisburg Academy and is a highly visible member of the administrative leadership team reporting directly to the head of school. The director is responsible for researching, planning, managing, implementing, benchmarking, and leading fundraising activities to secure major gifts for endowment and capital purposes, the annual fund, special events, alumni relations, stewardship activities, and internal/external communications regarding these initiatives. The annual average of major gifts and annual fund contributions secured is $400K and $300K, respectively.The director will provide entrepreneurial leadership and strategic direction in a wide range of activities, including parent and alumni relations, publications, and communications. The director will nurture long-term philanthropic relationships with members of all constituencies on behalf of the Academy, focusing particularly on the annual fund and cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift donations. The director will also manage and actively participate as a member of a task force dedicated to securing Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) scholarship funding. Currently, Harrisburg Academy is in the process of completing its Bold Ambition campaign — a comprehensive campaign dedicated to raising $5.5 million for renovations and new construction, $1.5 million to expand our endowment resources, and another $1.5 million to lift our annual Academy Fund levels of giving to new heights. To date, we have completed the first two phases of the campaign. The director will be central to this extensive effort, working with leadership, managing volunteers, liaising with campaign counsel, and soliciting major gifts.The director supervises the Development and Alumni Relations Office professional staff and will serve as primary contact with the Executive Alumni Board and the Advancement Committee of the Board of Trustees. Harrisburg Academy is seeking a full-time assistant director of admission for Early Childhood and Lower School to begin with the next fiscal year on July 1, 2017. This position will report to the director of enrollment management and will be a member of the admission and advancement teams. As a prominent external representative of our school, the assistant director of admission for Early Childhood and Lower School will be expected to professionally and effectively market the school throughout the greater Harrisburg region by sharing the Harrisburg Academy community and the Academy Advantages in a compelling way.Along with the admission and communications/marketing staff, the assistant director of admission for Early Childhood and Lower School will work to increase market awareness of Harrisburg Academy and the environment that is the Early Childhood and Lower School program — which includes our preschool program (Harrisburg Academy Threes, or “HATS”), Junior Kindergarten, and Kindergarten, as well as 1st through 4th grades. Harrisburg Academy is currently accepting applications for both areas of our part-time after-school program (Early Childhood/Lower School-aged students and Middle School/Upper School-aged students). We are seeking individuals who have a love of working with children. The position requires good communication skills, a sense of creativity and enthusiasm, the ability to plan and implement age-appropriate activities, and the skills to work well with parents and community members. Applicants need to be at least 18 years old, are required to pass a full background check, and must be able to adhere to the school's dress code policy. Located on campus, the Extended Day Program is a blend of recreational and enrichment activities based around a series of themes. Teachers / counselors who love working with children, demonstrate creativity, enthusiasm, responsibility, and friendliness. The Extended Day Program helps preschool through elementary school-age students develop both socially and physically through organized recreation and positive encouragement. We provide a variety of structured and free-choice activities that promote individual and social development. Daily favorites include crafts, games, and reading, as well as inside and outside play. Please note that the EDP team also offers child care from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on days when classes are not in session (such as faculty in-service days, parent-teacher conferences, and some school breaks).
Study hall monitors ensure a safe, studious environment for our Middle School and Upper School Study Clubs (5th through 12th grades).
Essential Functions for After-School Staff Members:• Supervise, monitor, and assist children ranging from 3 to 18 years old as they participate in a wide variety of after-school activities, both inside and outside• Organize and lead both large- and small-group games and activities that are age-appropriate• Clearly communicate and collaborate with all co-workers, parents, and participants• Maintain a consistent environment, which includes working as scheduled (flexible schedules are available during program hours)
An all-day version of our Extended Day Program with added summer activities, including pool time and field trips.All positions require good communication skills, a sense of creativity and enthusiasm, the ability to plan and implement age-appropriate activities, as well as the skills to work well with parents and other community members. There are also opportunities to share special knowledge or skills (language, culture, sports, music, etc.).
