Bold Ambition Campaign

Home Grown:

Because Rebecca’s Bold Ambition makes Harrisburg a better place

Rebecca Stevenson McClure '89

After more than 18 years of living outside of the capital region, Rebecca Stevenson McClure ’89 returned home — but it wasn’t always in her master plan to live and work in Harrisburg.  After graduating from the Academy, she went on to Colgate University and received an undergraduate degree in political science.  She then continued her studies at St. John’s College in Annapolis and Santa Fe, where she received a master’s degree in liberal arts.

Rebecca has always had an interest in health care and politics, and she quickly sought to combine these worlds after finishing her degrees.  She worked for several years for the Glendening Administration in Maryland and then for the physician general of Pennsylvania on legislative policy analysis, often writing speeches and promoting the administrations’ positions on health care issues.  She then spent 12 years at Aon Hewitt, a human resources consulting and outsourcing firm, where she served as the global communications lead and chief of staff to the CEO for the consulting part of the business.

In 2012, Rebecca accepted the role of vice president of enterprise communications for Capital BlueCross.  She had moved back to Central Pennsylvania a number of years before, but had been commuting to Chicago.  Now focused locally, she is helping Capital BlueCross evolve its business model and market strategy to prepare to serve customers in the new health care landscape.

Rebecca is making a difference in the community as well.  She’s a board member of the United Way of the Capital Region and Open Stage of Harrisburg.  She has also taken on a leadership role with the Academy, serving as a trustee of the Board and a member of the Executive Alumni Board.

“I love being back in this area.  It holds wonderful childhood memories, but also has proven to be a terrific place to build a life as an adult.  It is a pleasure to be part of — and give back to — a community that has given so much to me over the years.”
