HARRISBURG, Pa (WHP) — Students at the Harrisburg Academy hosted a food drive Friday morning in hopes of helping kids facing food insecurity this holiday season.
Students of all grades not only collected over 3,300 food items for the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, but they also raised an additional $300.
With hunger at an all-time high in the region, students said they felt inspired to step up.
“As a teenager myself, just knowing that there are some kids out there who are food insecure who do not have access to at least three meals a day – it’s really heartbreaking,” said Ava Rooney, Harrisburg Academy student organizer.
The students had the opportunity to take full control of the food drive, packing up canned goods and loading it all up on the vans to distribute out to the community Friday morning.
