Philanthropy and Giving to an Independent Private School
Whether you give your time, talent, treasure, or ties, giving back is a response to feeling grateful for what you have been given. Your enthusiasm for our school in the wider community, your participation at our events, your involvement with other families and alumni to strengthen our Academy community ties, and your financial gifts that enable and enhance the programs that inspire and grow the passions of our students, are what make Harrisburg Academy exceptional. Pablo Picasso famously said “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”

Why I Give
"The Academy holds a special place in my heart. Having been fortunate to attend for the duration of my entire secondary-school career, I was provided with a rich, world-class education that established the strong foundation required to launch a life of both deep fulfillment and achievement after graduation. As I reflect on my arc of learning at the Academy, one thing sticks out: everyone in this community positively impacted me – my teachers, coaches, staff, and peers. They all contributed to my growth and development. I would not be the person I am today had it not been for the Academy community.While one can never wholly repay those who teach us, I believe we have a moral obligation to pay it forward for our next generation of leaders. Through the recurring gifts of my time, educational expertise, and philanthropy, I try to emulate the selfless actions of those who work at the School each and every day, while ensuring our students have the additional support they require to be our boldest and capable leaders yet. I cannot think of a more worthy enterprise. As Benjamin Franklin once quipped, 'an investment in education pays the best interest.'I hope you will join me in investing your resources at the Academy, and, like me, watch them grow exponentially through the lives of our graduates."

Why I Give
“‘Surround yourself with good people, and good things will happen.’
This was advice I was given by one of my college coaches and it something that I found when I started teaching at Harrisburg Academy. I have shared this message endlessly with my students. From the administrators, colleagues, parents, and students, I have witnessed a community that cares about each other and supports one another not only when things are going well, but in the challenging times as well. As a coach and teacher, you want to have a lasting impact in a child’s growth and in return, I am grateful for each connection I have made throughout the years.”

Why I Give
"As a current administrator, former student, and child of a former teacher, my ties to Harrisburg Academy are diverse, long reaching, considerable, and cherished. As the Academy’s Director of Admission, I can empathize with some families’ trepidation about changing schools. However, I can confidently speak to the ease of transition into our school from my personal experience joining Mrs. Morrow’s 5th grade classroom mid-year, as well as from the understanding and kindness our current staff and student body show daily. Everywhere I have lived across the country I have met fellow Academy people; I have learned we are everywhere. Many years after my time as a student, I am reuniting with fellow Spartans on and off campus - it is a truly amazing job benefit. Each of those interactions makes my job of student recruitment and retention easier as the stories of Spartan successes keep growing."
TIME
Countless volunteers give of themselves and their time annually, out of love for our students and the distinctive programming we provide. As you offer your precious time to support those programs, community, arts, and athletic events where our students find their passions and aspirations, they in turn share those passions with the next generation of students looking up to them for guidance and leadership. Your gift of time is invaluable to the future of the Academy for generations to come.
TALENT
Academy family and community members offer their skills and expertise to our teachers to enrich the classroom experience out of respect and admiration for the futures we help build. As you give your talent to guide our students in their pursuits and enrich our lessons and curriculum with your own experiences and expertise, your leadership and knowledge provide essential real-world skills that enable our students to become leaders. Your gift of talent is essential to the experiential growth of our students at the Academy.
TREASURE
We raise money to enhance our programs in ways that tuition dollars cannot, and to provide scholarships and tuition assistance to students in need. Every child deserves the best education they can receive, and our Academy flourishes by opening doors to a wider community of unique talent and diversity, thanks entirely to your financial support. Your gift of treasure is immeasurable to the growth of our student body, and expands our diversity, creating truly globally-minded and compassionate students who will build a better world for each other and the future.
TIES
What ties us to Harrisburg Academy is a shared belief in the educational success of our students, the connections we have with other families and students in the Academy community, and the history we share with our fellow Academy alumni. When we share those ties with our own networks of colleagues and professionals, we introduce those beliefs, connections, and history to an infinite number of resources that continue to build and grow. Our Academy community is not comprised of knots and ends, but ties that connect and grow, expanding our reach and ensuring the sustainability of everything we do with, and for, our Harrisburg Academy students.
